The Scottish Lifestyle
There is a very good reason why Bristol-Myers Squibb chose Scotland to test it’s statin, Pravachol in the infamous WOSCOPS. Scotland has the most atherogenic diet of any country in the world. They could have handed out chicken soup and probably obtained similar results. Why didn’t they go to rural Vietnam to test it? Maybe its because heart attacks are very rare in Vietnam and it would have taken several generations of investigators to collect enough “events” to be statistically significant. Trialists and their paymasters, the drug dealers, love “events” because the faster they can collect them, the faster they can publish a paper and the more drugs they can sell. So you will never see a statin tested in a population eating a non-atherogenic diet.
